When I first became aware of Hurricane Katrina it was because My Boy’s family live in Florida.. and as always when a Hurricane starts making the news I start to pay attention hoping that they wont be affected in anyway.

Luckily for them the only way they were affected was that it meant that his little brother could ride some bigger waves than usual.

The devastation that has occured in New Orleans and the South is so incredibly sad and shocking. The USA is a FIRST world country and I for one just never expected to see such scenes of devastation in such a country.

As unaffected as I am personally by this terrible disaster… my heart goes out to the people who will become refugees in their own country.

The coverage on the New Orleans Times-Picayune has been incredible.

However… the lootings and rape and robberies that are also being reported disgust me.  But another view of it is .. as a man who was being interviewed on the tv said.. when you have NOTHING.. and have had nothing for 4 days.. and you have no idea when help is going to come.. can he be blamed for going into a store and taking food that is sitting on shelves that will waste…. when what is left of his family haven’t eaten for 4 days.  Its survival of the fittest in that situation and I have no authority to judge the actions of people under such extreme circumstances.
