Today was marvellous. HB and I spent the WHOLE day relaxing and talking and just being together.

Two of HB’s friends have birthday parties coming up and last night we… being HB and I, decided we would get up real early and get into the city to go hunt for outfits for her to wear.  Hence we were in the city by 9.45am this morning… and by the time we were loaded down with our shopping two hours later the heat was unbearable in out jeans and t-shirts and we decided we would head home… grab out bikinis and go hang out on the Hoe.

We stopped off at the local grocery store on the way home to pick up some fresh food for lunch and something happened that totally threw me for a loop.  A bunch of boys in a car were totally checking her out.  And it made me even more aware.. as if I needed to be made more aware… of HB’s “growing up”.  She’ll be 14 on the 18th of July and her legs need to stop growing.. NOW!!!!

It was quite fabulous.  We put together a lunch real quick and before you  knew it we were heading back to the city with blankets and bikinis for a few hours relaxation on the Hoe.

HB picked our spot and needless to say she chose it well.  More evidence.. if that were needed.. of her getting older was that she picked a spot real close to all the guys skating.  Shes not at all daft.  She spent most of the time propped up watching the guys skating and fooling around.  Eventually the fun of skateboarding in the incredible heat wore off and a football match ensued.  HB couldn’t have been happier as said football match happened even closer to us that where the guys had been skateboarding.  Our conversation was completely focused on which boys were hottest.. a conversation greatly helped by the fact that alot of them had taken there shirts off.

On a side note.. how did my daughter become so knowledgable about the different muscle groups of the torso??? Huh??? Huh???

The heat was something else again and after a few hours we wandered off home to try get showered and try to cool down somewhat.  After we had cooled off we sat in the garden talking but even the late afternoon sunshine was incredibly hot so we had to sit in the shade but it was beautiful.

If the rest of the summer is going to be like this then I’ll be happy.  An hour spent in the chair in the backyard at work will be quite sufficient to stop me moaning about watching people heading for the Hoe every day when there is glorious sunshine.
